Obese People Can Still Be Heart Healthy: Study - [ 2:31 p.m. PST, 11 August 2008 ]
A new study has found that about half of adults deemed overweight have otherwise normal blood pressure and cholesterol levels, while a number of trim people were found to have problems associated with being overweight.

Author of the first-of-its-kind study, MaryFran Sowers, a University of Michigan obesity researcher, said it bolsters the argument that while a person may be obese, they may not necessarily be unhealthy.

And it showed that "less volumptuous" people could be at risk for problems usually associated with obesity.

"We're really talking about taking a look with a very different lens" at weight and health risks, Sowers told The Associated Press.

In her study, about 51 percent of obese people had mostly normal levels of blood pressure, cholesterol, blood fats called triglycerides and blood sugar.
